Third BDNOG conference for IT professionals is being held in Dhaka. Several workshops on advanced routing and BGP, IP telephony, Linux system admin, and network were held on Tuesday (19th May) at BRAC center for telecom and ISP engineers as part of the conference. The conference will end on 23rd May.
The first conference was held on 19-24 May last year in Dhaka. The second iteration took place on 11-15 November in Cox’s Bazaar.
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu inaugurated the conference on Monday. Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor of Asia-Pacific University and Chairman of Bangladesh Internet Exchange (BDIX), John Crain, Head of Security, Stability & Resilience of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), M A Hakim, Chairman of ISP Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB); General Secretary of BDNOG Fakrul Alam, Chairman Nurul Islam Roman and Chairman of BDNOG Board of Trustees Sumon Ahmed Sabir.
Hasanul Haque Inu called for recognizing internet as a fundamental right after food. He said, “Internet is necessary for building a discrimination and poverty free Bangladesh. And it is the responsibility of the government to ensure a secured access to the internet. Internet is not a place to spread hate and violence. We hope to see Bangladesh as a developed and modern country. People of all professions have to work hand in hand to bring about a fruitful result.”
Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh needs a lot of internet professionals. The conference and the training it offers will help our professionals to stay up-to-date.” He hoped that we will be able to send world class professionals abroad after the country’s need are met. Head of Security, Stability and Resilience for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) John Crain said, “Internet has revolutionized the way we communicate across the world. It has made communication easier. If the government, the civil society and technical community can work together, BDNOG’s initiative will bring about a positive change to the internet situation in the country.”
“This conference enables engagements between local and foreign engineers, giving local engineers the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge. These trainings will create skilled professionals in the country benefiting local technology service provider companies with capable workforce.”
Internet Service Providers’ Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) Chairman MA Hakim said, “ISPAB is co-organizing the conference with BDNOG while Business Promotion Council of Trade Ministry is providing assistance. Local IT professionals will be greatly benefited if the government engages in such initiatives. He reassured that ISPAB will provide full support to all BDNOG activities in the future.”
BDNOG chairman Nurul Islam Roman said, “BDNOG will organize two conferences each year – one in Dhaka and the other in a city outside Dhaka. Keeping the promise, the fourth BDNOG conference will be held in Sylhet on November this year.” He added, “The main goals of these conferences are to enable BDNOG members in sharing knowledge and experience, performing various operational research, promoting local ICT talents on international level, and ensuring a satisfactory internet service in Bangladesh.”
BDNOG General Secretary Fakrul Alam Pappu said, “This conference enables engagements between local and foreign engineers, giving local engineers the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge. These trainings will create skilled professionals in the country benefiting local technology service provider companies with capable workforce.”
BDNOG Board of Trustees Chairman Fakhrul Alam Sabir said, “We, at BDNOG, are trying to establish a fund to support local professionals and engineers in attending various international conferences such as – Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Asia-Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies (APRICOT), Asia-Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC). With this fund we will be able to promote local talents abroad.”
