Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury, secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), yesterday expressed his hope that Walton would be a renowned brand in the global market very soon.

Now, Walton captured a lion market share in the domestic electronics market. I hope that they would be able to continue such success in the international market.
Walton will be a reflection of Bangladesh among the global buyers,” he said. The environment secretary made these remarks while expressing his reaction after inspecting the progress of the phase out of HFC (Hydrofluorocarbon) in refrigerator and compressor at Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL) in Chandra of Gazipur on Thursday (April 25).

During his visit to WHIL, MoEFCC’s Additional Secretaries Dr. Nurul Quadi and Md. Mozahed Hossain, Deputy Secretary Shamshur Rahman Khan, UNDP’s Assistant Resident Representative Md. Khushid Alam, National Consultant on Chemicals and Montreal Protocol Ashraful Ambia, IMED’s Director General and Additional Secretary Md. Kamrumzzaman, Department of Environment’s Director General and Additional Secreatry Dr. Sultan Ahmed, Director Md. Ziaul Haque and Project Coordinator Dr. Satyendra Kumar Purkasyastha, among others, were present.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited Director SM Mahbubul Alam welcomed the visiting team with a flower bouquet.
Among others, WHIL’s Executive Directors SM Zahid Hasan, Alamgir Alam Sarker, Shoyeb Hossain Nobel and Golam Murshed, Deputy Executive Director Meer Muzahedin Islam, Sharif Harunur Rashid, Operative Director Tawfiq-Ul- Quader and Ishaque Rony, and Additional Operative Director Khondker Shahriar Murshid were present.

Mentionable, Walton inked a deal with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in last year aimed to phase out the use of harmful HFC refrigerant in refrigerator and compressor within a one-year. Already, about 80 percent work of the project in refrigerator unit and 70 percent work in compressor unit have been done with the use of HC600a instead of HFC134a refrigerant.

The completion of this project will reduce the emission of HFC gas by 230 tons annually. Walton or Bangladesh is going to set up an example in reducing the global warming through this project.
