Walton honored with HSBC Business Excellence Award

The Bangladeshi multinational electronics brand Walton has been honoured with ‘HSBC Business Excellence Award’ as the recognition of its remarkable contribution to the boost of import substitutes manufacturing industry in Bangladesh.

To honour the successful entrepreneurs and organisations for their significant contribution to the country’s growth, the Hang Kong and Shang Hai Banking Corporation (HSBC) gave its ‘1st Business Excellence Award’ to a total of 8 enterprises different categories at an award giving ceremony at the Ball Room of Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital on Saturday (January 18) evening.

Among the company’s of manufacturing and marketing over US$ 10 million worth import substitute goods, Walton Group received the award under Under the ‘Best in Import Substitution’ category.Attending as the chief guest, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi handed over the ‘HSBC Business Excellence Award’ to Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL) Director SM Mahbubul Alam.

British High Commissioner in Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson, Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, HSBC Bangladesh’s Chief Executive Offer (CEO) Francois de Maricourt and Deputy CEO Md Mahbub ur Rahman attended the function as special guests.

On behalf of Walton Group, Executive Directors Abul Bashar Howlader, International Business Unit President Edward Kim, First Senior Additional Director Shahana Akhter Shampa, Deputy Directors Munima Chowdhury Nodi and Augustin Sujon, and Assistant Director Mirza Maruf-ur-Rahman also present at the award giving ceremony.

While expressing reaction on receiving the award, WHIL Director SM Mahbubul Alam said, Once upon a time in Bangladesh, the entire local electronics market was fully depended on imported goods. Then, the prices of imported electronics were so high that all classes of people could not afford electronics appliances.

Walton made electronics affordable for all-classes of people through starting local production of the import substitute appliances, he added. Walton has not only reduced the country’s import dependency but also earning huge foreign currencies through exporting ‘Made in Bangladesh’ tagged electronics in different countries of the world, he noted.

Also, Walton made huge employment in the country’s fastest growing electronics industry, he added. Now, Walton is moving ahead with the target of becoming the global top electronics brand by 2030, mentioning it SM Mahbubul Alam said that this award will be a great inspiration to achieve the target.

Walton achieved lots of national and international awards like National Environment Award 2018; Best Brand Award 2019; International Market Leadership Award 2015; Global Brand Excellence Award 2014 and DHL-Daily Star Bangladesh Business Award 2014. Apart from these awards, Walton has been received the Highest VAT Payer’s Award in the Dhaka International Trade Fair for the last 8 years.
