Pureit brand of Unilever Bangladesh and Innovation Hub of UNDP are poised for jointly hosting the round table ‘SDG 6 Multi sectoral Dialogue on Safe Water’ on Thursday to brainstorm about the private sector’s challenge in ensuring the supply of safe drinking water for all against the backdrop of urbanization and climate change. The round table is set to be organized at the capital’s The Westin, Dhaka’ on November 29.
According to a research, 97% of the people have access to water, yet 60% are accessing unsafe drinking water. Under the circumstances, the private sector can play a key role in solving safe and quality water access in Bangladesh. Moreover, investing in safe water through product and service development and supply chain improvement can mitigate risk and generate profit for the private sector.
The roundtable is a step towards realizing the organization’s overarching goal to lead sustainable practices and investments in ensuring safe water. The roundtable aims at shedding light on the existing projects of the government, non-government organizations and INGOs regarding ensuring safe water in Bangladesh and the projects that need to be undertaken in the days to come.
All stakeholders including financial institutions, public and private sectors and NGOs will have their participations and voices in the roundtable. The recommendations coming from the roundtable will pave the path for the next course of action in ensuring public-private partnership to entitle everyone to safe water.
Earlier, in February this year, Unilever Bangladesh teamed up with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh to help the country attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
