Understanding Fast Charging Technology

We are living in an incredibly world where we are always busy doing something. So keeping your device plugged in for shorter time mean you are ready to rock and enjoy this beautiful world extensively. To make this possible smartphone makers’ have introduced fast charging technology.

Several smartphone makers have hit the market with their fast charging technology over the last few years. Probably you might have already heard some of their name like VOOC Flash Charge, Dash Charge, Quick Charge etc. Those fast charging technologies allow your smartphone’s battery faster to juice up. To understand the technology behind fast charging let’s discuss how smartphone’s battery gets charged. Most of the smartphone makers use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries which is composed of a positive and negative electrode and an electrolyte in between them.

The lithium ions inside the battery move from one electrode to another, allowing the battery to be in a charging or discharging state. While charging your phone certain amount of power flows in from the charger. A built-in regulator prevent your phone to push too much power into the battery and save from burning. So smartphone’s internal regulators set the perimeter of charge which is limited.

The output of a charge is measured in amperes (Amp) and voltage (V). Amperes is the amount of electricity flowing from the charger to the connected device, while voltage is the strength of the electric current. Multiplying volts by amps gives you watt, the measure of total power. Most manufacturers either boost the Amperes or vary the voltage to increase the amount of potential energy going to the battery which allows the device to charge faster. Some fast chargers are currently available in market namely, Qualcomm Quick Charge, OnePlus Dash Charge, MediaTek Pump Express, OPPO VOOC Flash Charge etc.

Quick Charge achieves fast charging by upping the charging voltage. This is the most widely implemented charging method on the market because of the widespread nature of the company’s chipsets. MediaTek Pump Express technology also rely on charging the phones at a higher rate of power.

OPPO has designed and developed faster, more secure fast charging technology called VOOC (Voltage Open Loop Multi-step Constant-Current Charging). Theoretically the technology behind VOOC charge from OPPO and Dash Charge from OnePlus is same. One of the major issue of fast charging is temperature raise, sometime which leads to explosion.

The key benefit of VOOC is its ability to keep temperatures low while charging. VOOC allows you to watch videos or play games while your phone is charging, with no drop in charging speeds. OPPO has introduced an intelligent five-layer protection system from the adaptor to the port and interior of the phone which improves the speed and safety of the charge. Recently OPPO F9 comes up with VOOC charger in Bangladesh and widely popular among masses.
