The Eye-catching Kuakata

Daughter of the Sea, Locally known as Sagar Kannya is a rare scenic beauty spot on Bangladesh. Visiting kuakata beach one can have an unobstructed view of both sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal. It is also a sanctuary for migratory winter birds. It is a place where you will see thousands of small lobsters running all over the beach if visited at very early morning.

The name Kuakata originated from the word `Kua`-the Bengali word for “Well” which was dug on the sea shore by the early Rakhine settlers in quest of collecting drinking water, who landed on Kuakata coast in the eighteenth century after being expelled from Arakan (Myanmar) by the Mughals. Afterward, it has become a tradition of digging well in the neighborhoods of Rakhine tribes for water.

Kuakata is located at Latachapli union under Kalapara Police Station of Patuakhali district is about 30 km in length and 6 km in breadth. It is 70 km from Patuakhali district headquarters and 320 km from Dhaka. There is a road between Dhaka and Patuakhali district headquarters. It is accessible by road, water or air transport up to Barisal. Then one can travel by road or water to Kuakata or Patuakhali.

Kuakata is an excellent combination of the picturesque natural beauty and the huge expanse of water of the Bay and evergreen forests are extremely eye-catching. It is one of the rarest places which have the unique beauty of offering the full view of the rising and setting of the crimson sun in the water of the Bay of Bengal. That Natural beauty of Kuakata has made it as one of the world`s most unique beaches in the country. The sandy beach has gentle slopes into the Bay of Bengal and bathing there is as pleasant as is walking or driving.

Best visiting spots are noted to be Sunrise & Sunset` point on the beach, Jhaubon, Rakhine Market, Lemur Char, Fatrar Dip and Misripara – Rakhine Village which has a Buddhist Temple and has a statue of Buddha of about 30 feet high.
