Shakib Al Hasan hammered 42 runs in 26 balls and then bagged five wickets for just 21 as Bangladesh comfortably beat West Indies by 36 runs in the second T20 in Dhaka on Thursday.
The win levelled the three-game series 1-1 and the hosts now stand a chance to make it a clean sweep of three series wins in this tour of the Caribbean side.
Put into bat first, openers Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal (15) fired 40 in 4 overs before the latter’s departure.
Liton’s fifty came in just 26 balls, the batsman stopping finally on 60 off 34 deliveries. His blazing innings featured six fours and four sixes.
Soumya Sarkar then played his part by adding 32 off 22 balls, leaving it to Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah to take things forward.
The duo made 91 in just 7 overs, Shakib hitting five fours and a six while Mahmudllah blasting seven fours in a 21-ball 43.
Sheldon Cottrell grabbed two wickets while Oshane Thomas and Fabian Allen claimed one apiece.
West Indies lost opener Evin Lewis on 8 and although Shai Hope (36) and Nicholas Pooran (14 off 6) looked dangerous, their fall in consecutive overs almost sealed the fate of the game.
Rovman Powell was the top-scorer with a 34-ball fifty, made with five fours and a six, but the failure of the other batsmen meant they had to lose a game once again in the tour.
Keemo Paul’s 29 off 16 balls only slashed the margin of the loss.
Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets while Mahmudullah, Abu Hider and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed one wicket each.
The teams play the final T20 on Saturday.
