RANCON Launches the Proton X90 in Bangladesh as the Exclusive Authorised Distributor of Proton

n Thursday, 29 February 2024, RANCON officially unveiled the Proton X90 at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the presence of Her Excellency, Ms. Haznah Md. Hashim, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, as the guest of honour, along with Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, and Romo Rouf Chowdhury, Group Managing Director, RANCON Holdings Limited.

PROTON was founded on 7 May 1983 to spearhead Malaysia’s economic development and lay the foundations for the local automotive industry. In 2017, the company entered the next phase of its plan to be a global automotive brand with the signing of a partnership between its two principals, DRB-HICOM and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Today, PROTON continues to delight its customers with cars anchored on its brand promise of INSPIRING CONNECTIONS and developed on its core values of always delivering Innovative Technology, Reliability and International standards.

The launch of the Proton X90 marks the beginning of a partnership between PROTON and RANCON Cars Limited, as the exclusive distributor and manufacturer for Proton vehicles in Bangladesh.

“PROTON is confident that RANCON Holdings is the perfect partner for us to be successful. They are already establishing a sales and after sales network and will invest in a manufacturing line to locally assemble Proton vehicles in Bangladesh. With more offerings coming in the near future, as well as PROTON’s commitment to support all facets of the partnership, we look forward to being a major player in the country’s automotive market,” said Dr Li Chunrong.

The Proton X90 boasts a 48V mild hybrid system, which includes a 1.5L turbocharged engine, co-developed with Volvo, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and enhancing overall performance.

RANCON will retail two variants of the Proton X90 – the 6-seater Flagship variant retailing at BDT 49.90 lakhs and the 7-seater Premium variant retailing at BDT 45.90 lakhs – at its showrooms in Dhaka and Chattogram. RANCON will offer a warranty of 5 years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first) with 6 free after sales services. RANCON will also be providing authorised after sales service and ensure genuine spare parts in its own authorised service centres in both Dhaka and Chattogram initially.

At the event, Mr. Romo announced, “RANCON has already invested 100 Million USD in its own state-of-the-art Industrial Park in Bangladesh. Under the dynamic leadership of our honourable prime minister and her vision supported by automobile manufacturing policy, by the end of 2024 we plan to commence production of Proton vehicles at this facility, with a target to significantly reduce the retail price.”
