One of the greatest tragedies for Bangladesh is Rana Plaza, now it is a movie by Porimoni and Simon. The film ‘Rana Plaza’ is made based on the story of rescuing a victim Rana Plaza collapse, Reshma, alive from the ruins of Rana Plaza building after 17 days of its collapse. The film, directed by Nazrul Islam Khan, was scheduled to be released on September 4.
Rescuers retrieved 19-year-old Reshma under the rubble after 17 days of the worst-ever building collapse tragedy in Bangladesh`s history that left over 1100 people dead in April 2013.
The High Court on Monday banned for six months the screening of a film ‘Rana Plaza’, saying that the movie was made ignoring the guidelines set by the court earlier.
An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam passed the order after a hearing on a petition filed by Garment Sramik Association, UNB news agency reported.
The court also stayed the effectiveness of the certificate given by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board for the film.
It also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the Censor Board’s certificate for the film would not be declared illegal.
The Information Secretary, the Bangladesh Films Censor Board Chairman and other concerned have been made respondents to the rule, returnable within the next four weeks.
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Md Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state.
