Grameenphone Limited has continued to uphold its position as the highest tax payer in the telecom sector. As a recognition of this, National Board of Revenue (NBR) has awarded Grameenphone with tax card, certificate and crest.
The award ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Dhaka hotel today. Michael Foley, CEO and Yasir Azman, Deputy CEO & CMO of Grameenphone received the award on behalf of the organization.
NBR has recognized Grameenphone as the highest tax payer for the year 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 for the corresponding assessment year 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-19 in the Telecommunication category.
Since its inception, Grameenphone has paid BDT 73,085 crore to national exchequer, equating to 54% of its total revenues, to the national exchequer in the form of taxes, VAT, duties, fees, 4G license and spectrum assignment etc.
Michael Foley, CEO of Grameenphone stated, “This recognition by NBR is an inspiration for us all to continue our contribution in building digital Bangladesh. This is a testament that Grameenphone pays its dues. We are pleased that Grameenphone is being recognized and honoured as the top tax-payer of Bangladesh by the National Board of Revenue.”
He said, “We are proud to have made such a significant contribution towards the government expenditure on economic infrastructure like roads, education, healthcare system and social welfare that will benefit all people of Bangladesh.”
Grameenphone has also participated in the inauguration of the Annual Tax Fair starting on November 14, 2019 to portray their solidarity with the practice of lawful tax payment system and handed over a cheque of BDT 150 crore as ‘Advance Income Tax’ to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
