More than 1.2 million students got stipends through bKash before Eid

For the first time in a very short period, the stipends for 12 lakh 60 thousand secondary level students have been disbursed directly to the students through bKash from government fund.

On May 20, 2020, the Minister of Education, Dipu Moni inaugurated the stipend disbursement program of July to December 2019 under Secondary Education Sector Investment Program (SESIP) through G2P (Government to Person) initiative. In this new system, bKash has distributed the stipend to the students across the country in a cost-effective way and within a very short time before the Eid. Agrani Bank was the banking partner of this stipend distribution program.

SESIP is the largest stipend scheme run by the Ministry of Education to eradicate the dropout rate of school students.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that students and their parents are in crisis like everyone else in this critical time of Covid-19. At this time, the stipend will bring some relief for their progress in education. This G2P initiative has taken the government’s vision of Digital Bangladesh and education development program one step ahead.

Stipend of more than one million students under two more projects will also be distributed through G2P within the short span of time.

Mizanur Rashid, Chief Commercial Officer of bKash said, the company is proud to accomplish the prompt distribution of stipends with accuracy and transparency before Eid during this Covid-19 situation. bKash will continue these efforts in the coming days to play a significant role in the development of students’ education by implementing the initiatives of the Ministry of Education.
