Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) stated the enormous opportunities they see in the ICT sector of Bangladesh. It was stated at a meeting of the Executive Council of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) with the representatives of JICA Bangladesh on Tuesday at JICA office, Gulshan, Dhaka.
At the meeting, BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed articulated the activities and agenda of BASIS to the Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh HAYAKAWA Yuho. He specified the five focus areas of BASIS which are: HR capacity development, startup ecosystem, local market development, US$ 5 billion export earnings to achieve, and industry promotion.
Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh HAYAKAWA Yuho pointed out the huge potential of the ICT sector of Bangladesh and assured BASIS to provide all the necessary support in the development of the sector. He has also briefed, how JICA is deeply engaged in working relationship with the ICT Division, and relevant government agencies for the development cause of the ICT sector which JICA foresees to strengthen further in newer areas including cyber security.
The key agenda of the meeting was to work on Bangladesh and Japanese ICT market opportunities together to meet the Digital Bangladesh mandate of current government.
The meeting was also attended by JICA Senior Representative SAHEKI Takeshi; JICA Representative HIROKI Watanabe; JICA Representative MITSUOGI Shun; BASIS Senior Vice President Samira Zuberi Himika; BASIS Vice President (Admin) Abu Daud Khan; BASIS Director AKM Ahmedul Isalm BABU; BASIS Joint Secretary Enamul Hafiz Latifee; BASIS Assistant Manager, Trade Facilitation Nadia Tabassum and BASIS Executive, Web & IT Toufiq Elahi Plabon.
