Jay Shah: A New Era for ICC Cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has a new leader in Jay Shah, who was elected unopposed to the position on Tuesday. Shah, the current BCCI secretary, will take over from Greg Barclay on December 1, 2024.

In his new role, Shah has outlined his priorities for the ICC, which include:

Prioritizing Test cricket: Shah has vowed to ensure the continued success of Test cricket, which is the foundation of the sport. He believes that Test cricket should remain a priority for all stakeholders.

Promoting women’s and differently-abled cricket: Shah has committed to allocating more resources and attention to women’s and differently-abled cricket. He believes that these aspects of the sport need to be empowered and made more visible.

Expanding the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup: Shah supports the ICC’s decision to expand the T20 Women’s World Cup to 16 teams by 2030. He believes that this will help to elevate women’s cricket and make it more competitive.

Tackling challenges with passion: Shah is eager to address the challenges facing the ICC and the sport of cricket. He believes that these challenges can be overcome through collaboration and hard work.

Shah’s election as ICC Chair marks a new era for the sport. He brings with him a wealth of experience and a passion for cricket. With his focus on Test cricket, women’s cricket, and differently-abled cricket, Shah is poised to make a significant impact on the ICC and the sport as a whole.
