Within eight months of introducing 4G, Grameenphone Ltd. becomes the first operator in the country to achieve the 5 million 4G customer mark. Given the high price of 4G devices and relatively low penetration of such devices in the ecosystem, this is a notable achievement for the company.
Earlier in February 2018, Bangladesh has seen the introduction of 4G followed by rapid coverage expansion by the operators. Introduction of 4G ushered in a new era of digitalization in the country with a promise to put high-speed internet in the hands of the people.
Speaking on the occasion Grameenphone’s Deputy CEO & CMO, Yasir Azman, said, ”We are humbled by the trust that the customers placed on our network and services. We are always committed to maintaining the high standards and bring the best for our customers. Our effort on this regard has also been acknowledged by Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, has also acknowledged us as the fastest network of the country.”
Grameenphone is the first operator in Bangladesh to introduce mobile internet and take it around the country, giving the people access to the world of information. The company also invested time and money to build a digital ecosystem in the country to support a digital lifestyle. Grameenphone partnered with different stakeholders to reduce the price of internet-enabled devices, introducing digital services and supporting startups to come up with new services. Currently, over 36 million customers use the internet in Grameenphone’s network making it the single largest internet service provider in the country.
“While rolling out the 4G network we focused on quality rather than quantity aiming to provide the best 4G experience to our valued customers,” added Mr. Azman.
Grameenphone is continuously expanding its 4G coverage around the country while maintaining the promised quality. Customers can check whether their SIMs are 4G enabled, by dialing *121*3232#. If not they are requested to replace their existing SIMs to avail 4G-enabled SIMs from their nearest SIM replacement points or Grameenphone Centers. Additionally, customers will also need a 4G-enabled handset to enjoy 4G services.
The customers will get 5GB free internet with 7 days validity upon conversion to 4G.
