Dr. Muhammed Mehedi Hassan, Additional Secretary of the ICT Division, officially assumed his role as the Administrator of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
The newly appointed Administrator began his duties with a formal joining ceremony at the Ministry of Commerce in the morning. Later, he took charge during an event held at the BASIS office. Several BASIS members and Secretariat officials were present at the occasion.
Dr. Mehedi participated in a brief discussion session in the BASIS boardroom, where he sought the cooperation of all members in fulfilling his responsibilities. He stated, “BASIS has been working tirelessly to advance the country’s software and IT sector. I will do my utmost to take this sector further on the international stage.”
He also expressed his strong commitment to conducting a fair and credible election as soon as necessary reforms are completed.
Earlier, on Wednesday, December 4, Dr. Mehedi was appointed as the Administrator of BASIS through an official directive signed by Md. Navid Shafiullah, Additional Secretary and Director General of the Trade Organizations Division at the Ministry of Commerce.
The directive stated that under Section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022, the reconstituted board of BASIS had been dissolved with the government’s approval. Dr. Muhammed Mehedi Hassan, Additional Secretary of the ICT Division, was appointed as the Administrator of BASIS. His primary responsibility includes organizing a fair and impartial election within 120 days and transferring responsibilities to the elected committee, with a report submitted to the ministry upon completion.
