bKash, Biggan Chinta organize `Science Fest’ in Chattogram

The country’s largest mobile financial service provider, bKash and Biggan Chinta, a leading science related monthly publication jointly organized the `BigganUtshob – Science Festival’ at Primary Teachers’ Training Institute of Chattogram today.

More than 300 students of different schools from Chattogram participated in today’s event. Besides the projects, there were question-answer session, lecture by renowned teachers of the country, robot exhibition, science magic, orientation with various science books, etc. To promote the science practice among the school students, this program started from Dhaka. After today’s event at Chattogram, it will be organized in other divisional cities also. The grand final will be held at Dhaka at the last stage.

Present at the event were Abdul Kayum, Editor of Biggan Chinta; Bishwajit Chowdhury, Poet and Sub-editor of Prothom Alo; Mst. Kamrun Nahar, Superintendent of Primary Teachers’ Training Institute; Abul Bashar, Executive Editor of Biggan Chinta; Sayma Ahsan, Deputy General Manager from bKash; distinguished teachers and professors from different schools and universities and many others.

In today’s event, 40 projects were presented group-wise by the students of 30 schools of Chattogram. Among them, 10 have been selected for next round through competition. Before the event started, registration was completed and after proper judgment the winning projects were selected to exhibit. From the quiz session and from projects, many students were awarded and those projects were selected to go for competing in national level.

Major General (Retd) Sheikh Md. Monirul Islam, Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer of bKash said that if we cannot connect our brilliant students with latest scientific and technological advancement, we will fail in near future. They are our future scientists. We need to nurture them properly so that they can keep pace with the highly advancing new world of science. We hope this initiative will help students think in better ways to innovate more.

Abdul Kayum, editor of Biggan Chinta said, the brilliant students of Chattogram have presented some fantastic projects which we may use practically. It will benefit the country’s ICT sector and also boost the spirit of these young talents. We hope this Science Fest will enhance the confidence of the students and inspire them to become scientists in future.

Launched in 2011, bKash, a joint venture of BRAC Bank, US based Money in Motion, International Finance Corporation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Ant Financial, operates as a payment service provider offering broad range of mobile/digital financial services under the regulation of Bangladesh Bank.
