Airtel Rising Stars comes back

Recently British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, His Excellency Robert W. Gibson CMG hosted a grand reception at his residence to welcome back the 12 Airtel Rising Stars players from the Manchester United Soccer School in Old Trafford.

These 12 young boys from across Bangladesh made heroes return to the native land after a week-long grooming session at the most coveted football club of the world. 

This is the second season of Airtel Rising Stars, which is an initiative of Airtel Bangladesh Limited. The final 12 from this year’s Airtel Rising Stars are Md.Mustajik Khan from BKSP, Savar; Md. Mahadud Hossain Fahim, BKSP, Savar; Md. Anik Hossain from Isdajir Rabia Hossain High School, Narayanganj; Md. Nayeem Islam from Shitolai Alim Madrasa, Rajshahi; Md. Emon Biswas from BKSP, Dinajpur; Mahbubur Rahman from Victoria High School, Moulvibazaar, Srimanagal; Md. Hafizur Rahman from Badshah Faisal Islami Institute, Jessore; Md.Solaiman Haque from Chandrabaj Rashida Begum School and College, Jamalpur; Md. Mashiur Rahman from Chai Moria Bohumukhi High School, Gaibandha; Md.Khokon Miya from Chandrabaj Rashida Begum School and College, Jamalpur; Md. Sabbir Hossain from Torun Sangha Taka Para High School, Rajshahi; Md.Sohanur Rahman from BKSP, Khulna.

The training sessions at Old Trafford for the 12 finalists were grueling, the boys were taken through their paces from dawn to dusk. They trained at MUSS and had practice sessions at the Salford City Reds Rugby Stadium.

The stars witnessed a match between  Manchester United and Norwich City at Old Trafford, they also did some sightseeing at the Trafford Centre, museum and at other interesting places in Manchester. On their return, the British High Commissioner His Excellency Robert W. Gibson CMG gave a grand reception to these young boys in recognition of their talent and hard work at his residence on 26th June, 2014.  Mr. Rajnish Kaul, Chief Operating Officer of Airtel Bangladesh Limited accompanied the 12 ARS winners at the reception.

‘Airtel Rising Stars’ is a rigorous scouting program which has been held in 2 rounds conducted over a span of 5 months, at the end of which, top 12 players (under 16 years of age) has been selected from 10,000 aspiring participants. In the Airtel Cup, players from all hubs from across the country competed with each other in different teams where top 120 players were chosen. The 120 players selected from 19 Hubs were taken through a 4 day grooming session at BKSP.

Launched in association with Manchester United (one of the best soccer clubs in the world), the top 12 players out of 120 players have been selected to travel to Manchester United for a training program at Old Trafford. Airtel Rising Stars is an initiative of Airtel Bangladesh Limited which is partnered by Prothom Alo, Channel i, Independent TV and Radio Foorti.
